Exam Prep Skills, including English Grammar Essentials, Practical Workplace Math, and Reading Skills.

English Grammar Essentials, accompanied by The Mechanics, including Spelling, Punctuation, Grammar, and Business Correspondence

English grammar is not always easy to understand, and rules can be tricky. Correct grammar is necessary for successful communication on the job, in school, and in personal life.

Whether writing or editing emails, memoranda, letters, or business correspondence, you want your professional messages to be read and understood. Choose a writing style appropriate for your audience, your purpose, and the situation.

Practical Workplace Math, including Fractions, Percentages, Decimals, Charts, Graphs, and Spreadsheets

Where do we use math?

  • At work: I can only do 30 minutes of overtime.
  • At home: I prepare dinner for 4.
  • In transit: Our train is being held in the station for another 6 minutes.
  • In sports: The team won by 23 points.
  • In court: Would you believe that same violation repeated 9 times.

Math describes how much, how many, recognizes patterns, inductive reasoning, make estimation, fair trade/final bargains, help negotiations, efficiency.

Reading Skills, paired with Glossaries of Terms, including Business Vocabulary, DCAS, Essay, Administrative, and Technical Terms, and Matching Tests

Reading comprehension is the ability to read text, process it, and understand its meaning. Reading skills include skills acquired through reading and these skills give participants the ability to turn words on a page into a clear meaning.

Targeted Audience/Advanced Preparation:  Whether you are a member with years of service or one who only joined Local 1180 recently, this collection is highly recommended for the exam candidate  seeking advanced preparation for civil service exams and should be of special interest to the administrative and technical members

For example, “Multiple-Choice Test” is paired with Administrative Quick Quizzes, Written Expression; and “Critical Thinking in Action” is paired with Management Situations, In-Basket Exercises, and Essay-Type Exercises
